Overview of Digital Skills Level 2

Qualification objectives

The objectives of this qualification are to learners staff to:

  • Understand how to protect devices and data
  • Communicate socially and professionally using technology
  • Apply digital skills in personal and business situations
  • Use digital resources to facilitate their own career progression

Digital literacy skills

It is estimated that 11.3 million adults in the UK do not have basic digital skills. Latest figures predict that within the next 20 years, 90% of all jobs will need some form of digital knowledge. 

This qualification enhances your competency in digital literacy skills, supporting you within your current job role or giving the opportunity for progression into a role where digital skills are required.

Course units

To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Digital Skills, learners are required to successfully complete all 4 mandatory units.

Using and managing information

This unit covers how to search for and select appropriate information to meet personal and organisational needs.

Learners will understand how to evaluate the information they find, understand copyright, and be able to store information in line with organisational procedures.

Keeping yourself and others safe when using digital devices

In this unit learners will understand the importance of protecting personal and business’ data and devices.

They will also learn how to use equipment in line with health and safety legislation.

Communicating and collaborating online

In this unit, learners will learn how to communicate and collaborate online using a range of technology.

Digital career development

This unit teaches learners how to manage and promote their digital reputation and online identity.

They’ll be able to use social media and the internet to search and prepare applications for voluntary and paid employment and use technology to facilitate personal and professional learning and career progression.

Eligibility

Location

Been in the UK or EU for three years for purposes other than study.

Age

19+ at the start of the academic year.

Qualifications

  • Not on an apprenticeship.
  • Not completed any part of the course before.
  • 19-23-year-olds must have a level 2 or higher prior to attainment.
